Dr. Galamo Monkam is a Senior Research Fellow with the Robotics Research Center (RRC) in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the United States Military Academy (USMA), where he conducts advanced research within the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Research & Engineering (LAIRE).
He is a multidisciplinary researcher specializing in artificial intelligence security, machine learning robustness, cybersecurity, and applied mathematics. His work focuses on detecting and mitigating model poisoning, adversarial manipulation, and AI system vulnerabilities in security-critical and defense applications.
Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Monkam completed two years of postdoctoral research at USMA’s Army Cyber Institute, contributing to AI-driven cybersecurity initiatives and collaborative defense research programs. He also previously served with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, where he supported intelligence-related analytical efforts within a national security framework.
Earlier in his academic career, Dr. Monkam served as a mathematics and computer science instructor at Bowie State University and Morgan State University, mentoring students and supporting STEM education in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
Dr. Monkam holds terminal degrees in Applied and Computational Mathematics and in Computer Science. He has earned six industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA CASP+, CompTIA Security+, PCAP (Python Certified Associate Programmer), AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty, and AWS Certified Developer – Associate.
