CPT(P) Hunter W. Firebaugh, PMP

CPT. Hunter Firebaugh is an instructor at the Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York. A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico. he entered military service in July 2012 at USMA. He graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, commissioning as a second lieutenant in the Engineer Regiment.
Following graduation from USMA, CPT Firebaugh attended the Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and achieved distinguished graduate honors. His first Forces Command assignment began in December 2016 with the 39th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His first position in the 39th BEB was sapper platoon leader in Bravo Company and task force engineer for the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment (Blue Spaders), culminating in Joint Readiness Training Center rotation 18-05.
In fall 2018, he became company executive officer of the 39th BEB’s headquarters and headquarters company. His experience as XO and later battalion plans officer included planning and serving as a pathfinder for 2/101’s first wet gap crossing using sling-loaded ribbon bridge components in May 2019.
Following his assignment with the 39th BEB, CPT Firebaugh attended the Engineer Captains Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood in fall 2019, where he again earned distinguished graduate honors. He was then assigned to the 4th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado. While there, he served as the battalion assistant operations officer and lead planner for Operation Resolute Castle ’21, overseeing multinational, multicomponent construction of barracks and a maneuver range at Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area, Poland.
CPT Firebaugh took command of the 569th Mobility Augmentation Company in spring 2021, culminating in National Training Center rotation 22-02. His company was recognized by the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division commander for excellence, and he was individually recognized as breach force commander for both force-on-force and live-fire exercise portions of the rotation. He also served as commander of the 4th Engineer Battalion’s headquarters and headquarters company.
CPT Firebaugh holds a Master of Science in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He holds a Project Management Professional certification and is an Engineer in Training for the state of New York.
He is a graduate of the Sapper Leader Course, Air Assault School, and Pathfinder School. Awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the 2023 U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award for company grade officers.
CPT Firebaugh is married to the former Cecilia Martin, and they have a son, Arthur (3).
