Dr. Jessica Libertini, Ph.D.

Dr. Jessica Libertini is the director of the Mathematical Sciences Center at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Her career spans government, academia, and industry. She previously served as senior advisor for international science and engineering at the National Science Foundation; director of applied research and interdisciplinary professor of science and technology + innovative futures at the Joint Special Operations University, U.S. Special Operations Command; AAAS science and technology policy fellow in the Office of International Cooperation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; associate professor of applied mathematics at Virginia Military Institute; and senior engineer at General Dynamics.

Dr. Libertini’s research focuses on complex, interdisciplinary challenges in human security, the social dynamics of the teams addressing those challenges, and educational initiatives to increase the cadre of boundary spanners prepared to tackle such challenges. She holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University; an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; an Sc.M. and Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Brown University; and an M.A.S. in international and European security from the University of Geneva and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy.
