CPT Joe Kearney is an engineer officer and instructor in the Department of Systems Engineering. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, where he was a Tauber Institute for Global Operations fellow.
CPT Kearney commissioned as an engineer officer from the University of Dayton’s Fighting Flyers ROTC program in December 2014. He served as a route clearance platoon leader, sapper platoon leader and executive officer in the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, at Fort Bliss, Texas. From 2018–19, he served as a project manager in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Technical Development Program, assigned to the St. Paul District and working on the Upper Mississippi River Navigation Project.
After completing the Engineer Captain’s Career Course, CPT Kearney served as an operations officer with the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, with a rotation to Operation Atlantic Resolve. He then served as an armored sapper company commander (Assassin Company, 9th BEB, 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID) at Fort Stewart, Georgia, from 2021–22.
CPT Kearney is a graduate of Air Assault School and holds Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He is married to his wife, Sara, and they have two children, JJ and Sophie.
