LTC John P. Dzwonczyk is an FA59 (strategist) whose work focuses on geopolitics, geography, and national security. A 2007 graduate of USMA, he holds a master's degree in geography from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Colorado-Boulder. His research examines great-power competition, political geography, international networks, and U.S.-China competition in Sub-Saharan Africa.

LTC Dzwonczyk has served in a variety of leadership and staff assignments in Airborne and Stryker formations, including deployments to Iraq, Haiti, and Afghanistan. He later served as a Joint Strategic Plans and Policy Officer and Deputy Chief of Staff/Secretary of the Joint Staff at Joint Task Force-North, where he advised senior military and civilian leaders on strategy, interagency coordination, organizational transformation, and strategic communication.

From 2016 to 2019, LTC Dzwonczyk served as an instructor and assistant professor of Geography at West Point, teaching physical geography and environmental development. He has published and presented on geopolitics, military strategy, and natural resource governance, earning professional recognition in the process. He remains active in academic and professional communities as a researcher, reviewer, and mentor.
