CPT Joseph Salmento is an instructor and course executive officer in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at West Point.

He commissioned as a second lieutenant in military intelligence in 2014 through the United States Military Academy. He served as the brigade S-2 operations officer for the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and then as the assistant S-2 for the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. He finished his time in the division as the collections platoon leader in D Company (Military Intelligence), 29th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. 

CPT Salmento later served as the intelligence planner for the 3rd Armored Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas. He deployed with the 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, in 2019 to Korea as the S-2 for the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment.

After leaving Fort Hood, he earned his Master of Science in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. 

CPT Salmento and wife Amanda have a son, Max, and a daughter, Rita.
