COL Margaret Nowicki is an academy professor and deputy department head for the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York. She has taught mechanics of materials, engineering materials, and machine component design and manufacturing. Her areas of interest include materials science, additive manufacturing, biomechanics, and tissue engineering.
She was commissioned as an engineer officer in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from USMA. COL Nowicki earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering at the University of New Hampshire in 2008, and then in 2017, a Ph.D. from George Washington University, focused on biomaterials for tissue engineering.
From 2000 to 2003, she served with the 130th Engineer Brigade in Hanau, Germany. From 2004 to 2006, she was assigned to the 577th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. From 2008 to 2011, she served as an assistant professor in USMA's Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
From 2011 to 2014, COL Nowicki worked as a strength analyst for HQDA DCS G-1/PR. From 2017 to 2018, she served as a strategic advisor to the director of marketing for HQDA Manpower and Reserve Affairs. From 2018 to the present, she has been a USMA faculty member.
