Dr. Matthew Gonzalez is a performance psychology instructor with the Center for Enhanced Performance at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
The northern California native earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in kinesiology from San Jose State University, a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from West Virginia University, and a doctorate in sport, exercise, and performance psychology from West Virginia University.
Gonzalez has held full-time professional roles of lecturer at San Jose State University, assistant athletic director of sport psychology and counseling at the University of Vermont and has now found himself a home at USMA. In his role, he instructs sections of RS101, RS104, and PL360; works individually with cadets on enhancing their mental performance across all pillars of cadet development; consults with several corps squad teams; liaises with various academy departments; and serves as the internship coordinator for the Mental Training Lab.
He is happily married to Jordan Schmidt-Gonzalez; and they are the proud parents of a son, Max.
