Matthew Gonzalez was born and raised in Northern California. He has earned a B.S. in kinesiology (San Jose State University), a M.A. in kinesiology (San Jose State University), a M.A. in clinical mental health counseling (West Virginia University), and Ph.D. in sport, exercise, and performance psychology (West Virginia University).
He has held full-time professional roles of lecturer (San Jose State University), assistant athletic director of sport psychology and counseling (University of Vermont), and has now found himself a home as a performance psychology instructor at the United States Military Academy (USMA) within the Center for Enhanced Performance. In his role, he instructs sections of RS101, RS104, and PL360; works individually with cadets on enhancing their mental performance across all pillars of cadet development; consults with several corps squad teams; liaises with various academy departments; and serves as the internship coordinator for the Mental Training Lab.
He is happily married to Jordan Schmidt-Gonzalez; and they are the proud parents of a son, Max.
