MAJ Mouad Nassiri

MAJ Mouad Nassiri is an assistant professor in the Department of Law & Philosophy and Lieber Institute for Law & Warfare at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He also serves as a Dutch international officer and brings extensive experience in military law, operational policing, and legal advising within the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
He began his military career as a noncommissioned officer, receiving initial training at the Marechaussee training school. His early assignments included border policing and law enforcement duties at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. MAJ Nassiri later served in units responsible for maintaining public order, including the Mobile Unit and Support Unit, and was subsequently assigned to the Special Security Assignments Brigade, a unit tasked with protecting high-risk individuals and locations.
Following officer training at the Royal Military Academy in the Netherlands, MAJ Nassiri transitioned into legal and advisory roles. As a legal advisor and administrative appeal handler at the staff level, he provided counsel on internal operations, personnel matters, and the interpretation and application of regulations and military law.
His legal expertise spans Dutch criminal law, administrative law, international humanitarian law, the law of armed conflict, and the legal frameworks governing military operations. MAJ Nassiri has advised on the lawful use of force, special investigative powers, internal disciplinary procedures, and the legal implications of military engagements under both domestic and international law.
