CPT Shaun D. O'Connor, a native of Owings, Maryland, is a military science instructor and course director in the Department of Military Instruction at the United States Military Academy.
He graduated from West Virginia University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies. His first assignment was with 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He first served as a platoon leader in Apache Troop, where he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in 2016.
CPT O'Connor then served as a platoon leader in Charlie Troop as well as the executive officer of the Headquarters and Headquarters Troop. He then commanded both Beast Troop and the Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Upon completion of troop command, he earned master's degree in higher and post-secondary education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Airborne Badge and Air Assault Badge.
