MAJ Tanner Petersen is an instructor in the Department of English & World Languages at West Point.

He commissioned into the United States Army upon completing ROTC at Saint John’s University in Minnesota in 2013. As a logistics officer, he has held a variety of positions encompassing all facets of logistics operations: quartermaster, ordnance and transportation alike. He has served in the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York, and the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

MAJ Petersen commanded the 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company while stationed at Fort Eustis, where his unit executed multiple, simultaneous short-notice deployments in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Spartan Shield. Prior to assuming duties as an instructor at West Point, he earned a Master of Arts in English literature from the University of Notre Dame.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He has also earned the Air Assault Badge.

MAJ Petersen has been married to his wife, Rebecca, for 10 years, and they are the proud parents of two daughters.
