CPT Thomas Hoyt is an engineer officer and instructor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering with honors from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Science in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology and a Master of Science in system design and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Prior to commissioning, CPT Hoyt served as a machine gunner in the U.S. Marine Corps. During that time, he completed two combat deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2010 to 2011 with the 1st Marine Division and in 2012 with the 2nd Marine Division.
After graduating from West Point in 2016, CPT Hoyt attended the Engineer Basic Officer Leader Course and served as a Sapper platoon leader (armored) and company executive officer in the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, at Fort Riley, Kansas. As a member of the 1st Infantry Division, he completed rotational deployments to South Korea and Poland and earned second place at the 2018 Best Sapper Competition.
He later served as the master planner and facility engineer for the 1st Engineer Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After completing the Engineer Captains Career Course, he deployed to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve, assisting in establishing a persistent Army presence in Jordan and southern Syria with Area Support Group–Jordan, where he served as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander from 2021 to 2023. CPT Hoyt is a graduate of the Sapper Leader Course and Air Assault Course.
In 2025, CPT Hoyt joined the faculty of the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy. He is married to his classmate, CPT Sarah Hoyt, and they have one son, Mark, age 7.
