CPT William M. “Monty” Monlux is an instructor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York.
A native of Oakdale, California, he commissioned through ROTC as an aviation officer upon graduation from UC Berkeley in 2017, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. He then attended flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he qualified as a CH-47F Chinook pilot.
His first assignment was with the 3rd Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum, New York. During this assignment, he deployed as a flight platoon leader in Bravo Company, “Pando,” supporting Task Force Phoenix. After this assignment, he attended the Engineer Captains Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Joint Task Force Bravo with 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. During this time, he commanded Delta Company, “Matadors,” the battalion maintenance company, and later assumed command of Bravo Company, “Sugar Bears,” a CH-47F flight company.
Following command, he attended New York University and earned a master’s degree in psychology.
He is married to his wife Lauren, an internal medicine physician. They enjoy traveling through the United States together.
