A planned electrical power outage will take place on West Point from 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 in the housing areas. The following residences impacted by the shutdown includes: Washington Road, Merritt Road, Biddle Loop, Band, Old Brick, New Brick, Grey Ghost and Grant.

This is the final outage to complete the renovation of an area substation, which is part of the electrical infrastructure upgrade, according to Andrew McArthur, engineering technician, Utility Privatization Branch – Electrical Utility, West Point Directorate of Public Works.

“The upgrade will double our base’s capacity from the current one to meet the ever-growing electrical demands that we have here,” McArthur said.

To minimize the impact of the planned outage, residents should prepare by fully charging all electronic devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops, as well as any essential medical devices. Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed to maintain proper temperature, and consider using ice packs or coolers for medications needing consistent refrigeration.

Lastly, residents may want to unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from power surges when electricity is restored.
