WEST POINT -- Approximately 50 fifth graders from the West Point Elementary School took a field trip to Bartlett Hall May 29 to experience a science adventure with professors and instructors from the Chemistry and Life Sciences (CLS) and Physics and Nuclear Engineering (PANE) Departments.
Academy professors Lt. Col. Andy Kick (CLS) and Lt. Col. Will Koch (PANE) organized the event with WPES Fifth-Grade Science Teacher Marta Hasz to make the day happen for the young adolescents.
The students spent more than two hours learning many facets of science to include visiting the West Point Observatory to examine the sky, an introduction to Physics demonstration, learning about nuclear energy and radiation, and various CLS demonstrations on muscle activity, hydrogen fuel cells and rocket fuel.
The day allowed the fifth-grade students to observe some science experiments and what learning science at the college level looks like.
