Increased Traffic Around West Point For Military Event

WEST POINT, N.Y.– West Point is hosting its annual Sandhurst Military Skills Competition in and around the military installation from 6 a.m. Friday, May 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2.  

Area residents can expect increased traffic and troop movement along Routes 293 and 9W and around Camp Buckner and Lake Frederick areas. 

Route 218 and portions of Route 293 will be temporarily closed on Friday, May 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Route 293 will be further restricted to north-bound traffic only between West Point’s Range Operations building and Route 9W ramps.  

Those wishing to enter or exit West Point during this time should use Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates.  

Drivers are urged to use caution, remain patient, and avoid cutting into military convoys. Please maintain a safe distance and allow convoys to pass as a single unit.
