LTC Jason Hussey graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. Commissioned as an infantry officer through ROTC, he served as a mechanized infantry platoon leader and company executive officer in the 1st Cavalry Division, deploying to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2008.
While attending the Maneuver Captains Career Course, he voluntarily transferred to Functional Area 26A (network systems engineer). His first assignment as a functional area officer was to the Office of Military Cooperation in Kuwait, where he worked alongside the Kuwait Armed Forces Signal Corps in an advisory role.
Taking advantage of an Advanced Civil Schooling opportunity, LTC Hussey earned a Master of Science in telecommunications from the University of Colorado Boulder. Following his master’s degree, he was assigned to the Regional Cyber Center–Europe, where he led the operations and networks divisions responsible for IT service delivery to Army customers throughout Europe.
He then completed his first tour at the United States Military Academy, where he instructed in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Before earning his Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from the Colorado School of Mines, LTC Hussey was assigned to the U.S. Army Cyber School, where he served as an operations officer in charge of standing up a pilot program designed to develop cyber talent in partnership with the Defense Digital Service, based out of the Pentagon.
LTC Hussey is married to the former Whitney Crum of Round Rock, Texas. They have three children: a daughter, Emma, and two sons, Henry and Benjamin.
