MAJ Joshua Groen

LTC Joshua Groen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Arizona State University in 2007 and was commissioned as an armor officer. He served as a platoon leader and executive officer with the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, in Korea, and again as a platoon leader and executive officer with the 1st Squadron (Airborne), 40th Cavalry Regiment, in Alaska. He deployed to Afghanistan with the 1-40 Cavalry in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
After completing the Functional Area 26A (Network Systems Engineer) qualification course, his next assignment was with the 50th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, where he served as a network systems engineer.
After earning a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he served as an instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the U.S. Military Academy.
He was then assigned to the U.S. Army Regional Cyber Center–Korea (RCC-K), where he served in multiple roles, including senior information systems engineer, theater operations division chief, and senior network engineer.
He completed a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University, where his research focused on the intersection of wireless communications, machine learning and cybersecurity.
He currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the U.S. Military Academy.
