LTC Scott Hutchison graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. He was branch-detailed to the Infantry and served in the 1st Infantry Division as a platoon leader and company executive officer, deploying to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2008.
His first assignment as a Signal Corps officer was as a Stryker battalion S-6 for the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He deployed to Iraq again and took command of the 556th Signal Company for the remainder of his deployment. Upon returning to Hawaii, he relinquished command and served as the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team brigade information officer.
LTC Hutchison later worked as an operational test officer for the Warfighter Information Network–Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2 equipment prior to its Army-wide fielding. After earning a Master of Science in cyber operations from the Air Force Institute of Technology, he served as an instructor and assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy.
He then served for three years as the deputy division G-6 for the 1st Infantry Division, including a 10-month rotation to Poland in support of NATO training and readiness exercises. LTC Hutchison later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from Kansas State University and returned to West Point as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
LTC Hutchison is married to the former Amanda Baker of Deer Park, Texas. They have four children: Katherine, Thomas, Autumn and David.
