COL Tom Babbitt is the director of the Cyber Research Institute and an associate professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, New York.
He graduated from USMA in 1999 and was commissioned as an infantry officer. Assignments included rifle platoon leader, rifle company executive officer, and support platoon leader in 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and battalion S3 and Charlie Company commander, 4th Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 172d Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Richardson, Alaska. During those assignments, he deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operation Joint Forge in 2002 and to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2005 to November 2006.
COL Babbitt transitioned in 2007 to Functional Area 53, information system management, where he served in the C2IN Cell, Early Entry Command Post, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Richardson. He was an instructor and assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, USMA, and as the Future Operations and Plans officer in charge at the Southwest Asia Cyber Center, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
He transitioned in 2016 to Functional Area 47, academy professor, and has taught for a total of 12 years in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. During that time, he has served as director of the CY105 course taught to all freshmen, and program director for the Information Technology major, ensuring ABET reaccreditation in 2020, and as the Cyber Research Center director.
COL Babbitt is married to Bridget Babbitt. They are the proud parents of four children.
