Biography
Olivia Holloway, Assistant Professor of Portuguese, earned a PhD in Portuguese from Indiana University (2019) with a dissertation exploring Portuguese and Brazilian diplomacy in Japan over the 20th century. She is a literary and medical translator and a certified medical interpreter; her working languages are Spanish and Portuguese. At USMA, Dr. Holloway has taught LP203 and LP204 and will serve as Course Director of these courses this year. She will also lead a pilot module focused on Capoeira in LP485, including history, literature, movement, guest lectures, and trip sections. In 2020, Dr. Holloway received a Civilian Service Award for her assistance in returning cadets home safely from an immersion trip to the Azores amid rapidly changing directives early in the U.S. response to COVID-19.
